Project Name
"Automated Real-time Grading System for Export Quality Potato Using Machine Vision Technique"
Sector & Possible impact:Agriculture & The solution directly addresses the inefficiencies, inaccuracies, and inconsistencies in the existing manual grading method and is cost-effective, drudgery-free, women-friendly, and real-time potato grading which will benefit farmers/stakeholders. Bangladesh has an exportable surplus of 03 million tons of potato but it fares poorly when it comes to finding export markets, managing to export hardly 0.1 million tons a year due to quality issues of potatoes. The automated real-time potato grading system serves as a quality control mechanism, fostering economic sustainability and reinforcing the position of Bangladesh as a key player in the global potato trade. Potato growers, traders and exporters will benefit ultimately. The automated real-time grading system integrates a conveyor belt, an image acquisition system, a microcontroller based ejection system and a computer to grade defect free quality potatoes into three classes (Large, Medium and Small) based on size. Experimental results indicate the superiority of the automated real-time grading system to grading quality potatoes from the defective and then classifying quality potatoes according to standard sizes. The solution design adheres to industry best practices, acting as a quality control measure that supports economic sustainability and strengthens the export potentiality of potato.
Goal : The goal of the project is to develop a simple, reliable, automated real-time grading system based on size and defects for potato using machine vision technique to ensure uniform size and defects free export quality potato.
